Mining Exhibit
You can start your tour in the Mining and Mineral section where you can see how mineral effect our everyday life to the effects of the earths shaking on our very own seismograph.
Indian Exhibit
Next travel back in time to the Indians and see a wide variety of Kachina dolls, baskets and even a teepee. Then on to reptiles of the desert and a collection of pictures of the Missions of California.
Mounted Animals Exhibit
Next you will view a collection of animals donated by Lenny Brewster, Thanks to
his hunting skills you can see a black bear, buffalo, deer, warthog and
many more wild animals of North America up close.
Great Grandpa's Workshop, Great Grandma's Kitchen, Old Fashioned Parlor
Step
out of the animals and forward in time from the Indians to Great Grandpa’s
Workshop, Great Grandma’s Kitchen and of course the parlor. Kids these days
think they have it bad having to wash those dishes or mow the lawn. This
collection of old tools, farm equipment and water reservoir items as well
as Great Grandma’s stove, ice box and the dreaded wash board. This will
make them appreciate the modern conveniences they have today. Next
you will see a wonderful miniature of an old country store, with working
lights and all.
Military History & Heroes
We honor are veterans with a salute to the military
including a display of local High Desert Hero Captain Joe McConnell.This display included miniature models of
both the USS Constitution and the Missouri, along with a photo taken by a Japanese
squadron leader Lt. Commander Fuchida, who led the 1st wave to
the attack. This picture was found
at Yokasaka Navy Base, south of Tokyo on November 8, 1945. You
will see items from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam, and of course we made sure to represent women
with a “WAC’s” uniform.
Pioneers of the High Desert
High Desert History is represented with displays from local families as well as buildings that served the residents of The High Desert.
You can see an enlarged photo of the Mural that was painted on the wall of the Apple Valley Inn depicting the journey through the Desert by the settlers along with the stage coach that sat outside the Apple Valley Inn that was built by Newt Bass and Bud Westlund and later owned by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. You can see the suits worn by the Apple Valley Rancho Realtors as they sold land in the Ranchos.
Locals are honored - Roy Rogers and Dale Evens with a display of one of their many costumes worn during there movie careers.
Displayed is a collection of items from historical Bowen Ranch and photos from Murray’s Overall Wearing Dude Ranch, which was later owned by Pearl Bailey.
Felix Diaz has donated a parcel map of “The Barrio” of Victorville with photos and items from the early years of Victorville. There are definitely lots of items to keep you looking in the Local History area.
Technology Center
As you enter this section you will have the chance to view the progression of the technology age. An interesting item is the old fashioned camera. Why is the 100 year old camera so big? As you progress with your tour you will have the chance to view many items that you may remember your parents or grandparents owning.
Deserts of the World
You will not want to miss the opportunity to view the fabulous, collection of Ancient Mayan, Egyptian and Roman artifacts. With thanks to a local Apple Valley artist, you can trace the locations of their origins, on the map above the display.
